For over 35 years, the Prestage name has been synonymous with four qualities: family, integrity, quality, and innovation.
Since the company’s founding in 1983 by Bill and Marsha Prestage, our focus has been on supplying high-quality turkey and pork while building a sustainable family-oriented business rooted in integrity and innovation. Still family-owned and operated with three generations working throughout the company today, we remain committed to these foundational principles that have guided us since the early days.
Bill Prestage formed a business partnership with one of his feed customers – Mr. Ottis Carroll that would become known as Carroll’s Foods. Turkey production was transformed; moving the birds inside to optimize their health, safety, and growth potential.
Contract production was developed utilizing the skills of local farmers to care for the animals while giving the farm community a stable income.
Vertically integrated meat production was pioneered, streamlining supply and feed ingredient acquisition, genetics, veterinary services, and transportation which minimized production costs.
The first indoor swine farrowing facility is designed and constructed on a farm in NC.
Bill and Marsha Prestage, along with sons Scott and John, purchased the Swift turkey operation and feed mill in Harrells, North Carolina, and formed their own company – Prestage Farms. That first year, the company produced eight million pounds of turkey and 600,000 pounds of pork.
Prestage Farms completed construction of its new feed mill, warehouse, garage, maintenance shop, and office complex near Clinton, North Carolina.
The company’s first farrow – feeder pig complex was constructed at Kerr Station, North Carolina.
Prestage Farms completed construction of a second feed mill near Moltonville, North Carolina to meet the feed production needs of the growing company.
Prestage established its first operation outside of the state of North Carolina near West Point, Mississippi – Prestage Farms of Mississippi, a swine production division and constructed its third feed mill.
Construction began on Prestage’s new turkey hatchery, which is still today one of the world’s largest single-stage hatcheries with the capability of setting up to 650,000 eggs per day.
Bill and Marsha Prestage’s third son, Ron Prestage, DVM, joined the company forming Prestage Farms of South Carolina – a turkey production division and built the company’s fourth feed mill.
Prestage Foods – a turkey processing division, was birthed with the purchase of an existing St. Pauls, North Carolina processing facility. Major renovations began on the facility.

Prestage AgEnergy is launched in North Carolina with the goal of utilizing poultry litter as a renewable energy generating steam power and displacing the use of natural gas at the Moltonville feed mill. The facility was to also provide electricity for local utilities and ash to local farmers to be used as a soil amendment.
Construction began on Prestage Foods of Iowa – a 700,000 square-foot pork processing plant in Eagle Grove, Iowa. The modern and efficient plant opened in March of 2019 and represented the single largest investment in the future of the company’s swine business.
Prestage Farms of South Carolina broke ground on a new turkey processing plant in Camden, South Carolina with plans for the state-of-the-art greenfield plant to be operational in late 2022.
Prestage Farms and Prestage Foods continues to evolve, never losing sight of the company’s founding family values and goal of producing least-cost, top-quality products. Several of the Prestage family’s third generation have joined the team to carry forward the family’s goals and leadership.
“All process equipment and systems in place within Prestage Foods plants are selected for the reduction of an environmental impact and to provide greater overall efficiency.
